Sandweiler, Luxembourg: German War Cemetery

I'm not going to lie about this; it's an odd place for a bunch of tourists.

Our group was taken there after a visit to the American cemetery for soldiers from World War II. There we paid our respects to those who preserved freedom in the world. But a visit to those who perished on the losing side was a bit jolting. The Nazi regime was so horrible, of course, that it's difficult to come to terms with how to react upon seeing the dead. From what we heard, that applies to the whole country. You can figure out the various arguments from there for yourself.

The cemetery was the subject of an agreement between West Germany and Luxembourg in 1952, and Germany soldiers were moved from various locations here in the next three years. The just-discovered remains of an unknown soldier were placed here in 2007.
