Belgrade, Serbia: Serbia's Basketball Birthplace?

During a walking tour of Belgrade, we stumbled across a plaque on the side of an ordinary-seeming elementary school named after King Petar. Luckily, a guide could translate it.

This, it read, was the home of the first basketball game ever played in the country. Considering that Serbia has produced a lot of talent over the years, no wonder it is an historic spot.

However ... a few questions abound (pardon the pun) about this claim. The common knowledge is that the first game was played in this building in 1923, which would make it the 100th anniversary during our visit. However, other sources say it was actually played in 1924 ... which means I would have to come back in a year to see the centennial. Then again, others believe that first game was played at a completely different location.

The truth may never be known, but it was nice for basketball to come up on the trip.
