Chester, England

 

Chester is not a city that is on the radar of most American visitors. It has less than 100,000 people, and so it is not exactly in the news that often. But we had a nice stop there on our guided tour, and most of us agreed that it was a worthwhile visit. 

As is typical in Europe, the Old Town section is the main attraction. In the middle of it is the Town Hall, shown here. That building dates back to 1869. There are the usual museums and parks in the area. The city has been working furiously to increase its share of the tourist market, designating more than $2 million for promotion in 2007. 

I saw a list of famous people from Chester on-line, and two names jumped out. Michael Owen was a heck of a soccer player about 20 years ago, one of the best in the business and a member of the English national team. On a different track was Daniel Craig, best known as James Bond for a while.
