Edinburgh, Scotland: The Elephant House

You hear the name of Harry Potter quite a bit in Great Britain. Perhaps that's not surprising since more than 600 million copies of the series of books have been sold, and several movies have been made of the stories. 

There are a variety of guesses as to what J.K. Rowling used for inspiration for parts of the books. The guess is that many were composites, more or less. We do know where she sat down and wrote much of them - The Elephant House. 

Naturally, people make something close to pilgrimages to see Harry's "birthplace." But that was interrupted in 2021 by a large fire. The building was destroyed by the damage was considerable. The owner vowed to rebuild, and he is doing so ... but the process is a lengthy one. Here's the photo of it.

In the meantime, the second branch of the cafe has tried to serve as a replacement, and it's right around the corner from the old one. Rowling's table is there for the time being. But eventually, everything will be back to where it should be.
