Welcome to the Queen Victoria Building in downtown Sydney. It was build in the 1890s, and fills a city block. There have been some business cycles involved in the economics of the building here, although usually it's been used as a market. The Old Girl suffered some decay at one point, but a good restoration took care of that in the late 20th century. Other changes have taken place over the years since then. Now it's a showplace for the city.
The building itself is the star of the show, of course. There are a couple of spectacular clocks that hang from the roof; you'll want to stop and take a long look at them. The stores are rather high-end by any standard.
Even better, it's easy to visit. The place is right on the train line, and a garage was built below the facility along the way. During our visit, a mid-afternoon stop, the place was humming.
