Split, Croatia: People's Square

It's a good idea to take a look around when you get to the People's Square. It's been the major hub of activity inside Diocletian's Palace since the area became part of the town in the 1200s.

To the right side is a clock tower that dates back to the 1200s. What's particularly unusual about it is that it is a 24-hour clock. What's more, you'd better know your roman numerals in order to figure out the time. The clock is on top of the Iron Gate, one of the main entrances to the complex.

The Gothic Town Hall dominates most of the view from this spot. It was the center of government authority for many years, but now is a place where people can go for lessons in art and history.

It adds up to a spot where locals and tourists frequently mix, which makes it a fun place to visit.
