Cape Town, South Africa: Civic Centre

The Civic Centre in Cape Town is one of the centers of government activity in the city. If that sounds a little boring, at least to an outsider, well, it's a point that could be conceded.

But give the city leadership credit for calling attention to the building in a unique way. You can see the giant murals - two Nobel Prize winners named Mandela and Tutu - on the outside of the structure, looking down on the city. The murals first went up in 2015, and then were redone less than a decade later.

It serves as a quiet reminder to those passing by that the philosophy of the two leaders is always present.
