Bet you didn't know the Parthenon was in Nashville and not Athens.
OK, it's in both places. There's a small age difference, since Athens has one from 2500 BC and Nashville's came along in 1897. Tennessee was having a big party for its 100th birthday, and it thought this would be a nice addition to the grounds.
The Nashville version is in Centennial Park on the west side of town, near Vanderbilt, and it's very impressive. The idea was to make it as close to the original as possible, and it's a great tribute to classical architecture.
This is the only such replica in the world, and gives an idea of what the Greeks accomplished when they built the original.
