Amsterdam, Netherlands: Old Church

One of the joys of visiting Europe is the age of buildings. When something in America, we tend to think of a century or two.

Here's the Old Church in Amsterdam. Work began on it in the early 1200s. That's about 800 years ago. Preposterous. It was consecrated about 100 years later. Heck, the New Church was built in the 1400s. That's barely mature by the Old Church's standards.

The Old Church is right by the Red Light District in Amsterdam. Appropriately, then, a statue honoring an unknown prostitute is right in the same neighborhood as the church. Yes, Amsterdam is a little different.
