Luxembourg, Luxembourg

The "little countries" are always fun to see. They are tucked away in various spaces around the globe, historical accidents that exist  for no obvious reason.

Luxembourg qualifies. It is tucked between France, Germany and Belgium. You can look up the nation's history elsewhere. We're hear to talk about the city, sometimes called Luxembourg City.

It has about 125,000 people in it, but more than half of those are foreigners - and the percentage is rising. The city's biggest business is banking, and much of the population does quite well, thank you. It's one of the unofficial capitals of the European Union. What's more, there's virtually no crime to be found.

Geography has been a pal to Luxembourg in terms of tourist appeal. A couple of rivers meet here, and the center of the cities looks done on valleys. The result is quite spectacular (as this photo shows). The view is called Chemin de la Corniche, but the subtitle in English is "the most beautiful balcony in Europe."

It's probably not fair to call the city a well-kept secret. On the other hand ... how many people do you know that have been there? It's definitely worth a stop.
