Speyer, Germany: Pilgrim Statue

Time for a quick lesson about the "Camino de Santiago." It is a collection of ancient routes that go all across Europe. They eventually lead to northwest Spain, where the tomb of St. James is located. Think of a series of rivers combining as they head to one destination, and you'll get the idea.

Many thousands of people have been known to take this path each year. Sometimes they go in a group, and sometimes they are on their own. Feel like walking every day for a month straight? Then this might be the summer vacation you desire.

Speyer is on one of those routes. Therefore, this statue displays a pilgrim, making the trip to Spain by foot. Here's a video with information about the trek.
