Plenty of European cities have big markets, but not many have Great Market Halls. Budapest qualifies, because its market has much going for it. First, it is only a few minutes of walking from the center of the city. Second, it has a ton of economic activity attached to it. It's been a fixture here since 1897.
Visitors can walk around, eat fresh food, shop, take photos, and/or watch the people inside. The roof makes it an all-weather destination. There are three floors of items here, so take your time and pick out something good.
The market is open from Monday to Saturday, but closed on Sunday. The organizers say it's best to let the early morning hours go by without a visit, since the locals are busy there and tourists will just get in the way.
