Constanta, Romania

It only takes a look at a map to figure out the importance of geography in the city of Constanta. It is located right along the shore of the Black Sea in southeastern Romania.

That, naturally enough, means that Constanta should be a port city, and indeed it is - one of the biggest in Europe. Meanwhile, it also uses its location to advantage as a tourist spot. The waterfront is beautiful, and in the last 30+ years it has become something of an international destination.

There are slightly more than 250,000 full-time residents of the city, and they've been around a while. The city was founded in 600 BC, and ranks as one of the oldest in Europe.

This funky ship welcomes visitors to the beachfront area. As does this tour guide.
