Quito, Ecuador: Quito Botanical Garden

Quito is a city that probably isn't known for its green space. Therefore, it's nice to see a botanical garden tucked away within the city limits.

The Quito Botanical Garden is tucked into downtown. It was built in the early 1990s, and the goal was to recreate some of the ecosystems present in the country. A trail is available for those who simply wish to walk around and take it all in. Guessing the amount of time you might spend there is hard to do, since it depends so much on taste and interest. But you probably can do it in 60-90 minutes if you are watching the clock.

It's worth noting that the Garden is surrounded by Carolina Park. Based on one Sunday afternoon, it's where many residents relax on the weekend. There are walking paths, boat rides, food trucks, athletic fields, animal parks, and other attractions available.  No wonder it's called "The Central Park of Quito."

This was a bit of a walk from our hotel (30 minutes), but we had a free afternoon and this was a good way to spend it. We were a little spoiled about the plant life in the Garden during our visit, since we had spent three days in the rainforest beforehand. But most will find it more than pleasant.
