York, England: York's Chocolate Story

King's Square is a natural place for tourists to gather in the old part of York, and some of them no doubt have something of a sweet tooth. Therefore, the idea to have something of a museum dedicated to chocolate must have seemed like a good idea.

Therefore, "York's Chocolate Story" opened in 2012. It tells the story of the city's relationship with chocolate. The Rowntree's factory opened up way back in 1890, and was bought by Nestle in 1988. The tale actually starts with Cortez, the explorer who found chocolate in Mexico and brought it over to Europe. 

There is an explanation of the manufacturing process. Yes, there's a gift shop.

It was suggested that this is more of a store/tour for kids than adults, unless you have a serious chocolate addiction. We didn't go in, but here's an old video that supplies a look around:
