Twillingate, Newfoundland: Prime Berth Fishing Heritage Centre

It's easy to find the Prime Berth Fishing Heritage Centre ... at least once you've found Twillingate. When you see a large whale skeleton, take a left and park.

The facility is something of a tribute to David Boyd's ancestors, who make their living fishing in that part of the world. He's set up something of a museum along the waterfront, which serves as a good definition for eclectic in terms of content. There are all sorts of buildings and rooms on display for visitors, filled with items collected over the years. One of those buildings was towed from its original location via water to its current resting place. It's a little difficult to describe the place, but it's fun.

By the way, "Prime Berth" refers to idea that a lottery was held each year for a cod trap drawing. The "winner" had the chance to use the best spot in the area for fishing. Thus, he had the "prime berth."

I don't have many places where I can see a cod cut up before my eyes, so this visit qualified as a unique experience.
