Garston is on the road from Te Anau to Queenston, and often serves as a rest stop for tourists who are traveling one way or another on that road. Many of them stop at the Garston Hunny Shop. You can buy some honey and some other items. It's a good place for a little break from the road.
Garston's big moment came in the 1850s, when gold was discovered in the area and the population jumped. There are said to be railroad tracks left over from that era. The region is mostly farming now, and it's a nice, unspoiled part of the world.
