It was built in 1935, and the facility was quite popular during and after World War II. Things were going fine when a fire killed seven people, including six children. Several rides were replaced by the time Luna Park reopened in 1982. Then in 1988, the park closed again when it was determined that several other rides needed immediate repair.
A new group took over the place, but in 1995 complaints about noise from the neighbors caused more problems. Luna Park reduced its hours, and that didn't help the bottom line. But it reopened in 2004, and has remained operational ever since.
The welcome area is similar to the one for the park in Melbourne, and is a familiar sight for people in the area. This photo was taken during a cruise of the harbour. It seems like a good place to go at night for some fun.
