Zagreb, Croatia: Zrinjevac Park

Zrinjevac Park is a nice little island of calm in the big city of Zagreb. It takes up a couple of square blocks downtown, and has some trees and walkways. This would be a great place to relax and people-watch on a nice summer day. The area opened as a livestock market in 1873; this format no doubt has improved the smell of the area drastically.

There are a variety of statues of major figures in Croatian history scattered in this area. For no reason at all, I picked this statue as an example of what to see there. Ivan Mažuranić was a major figure in the country in the 19th century. He was a poet, linguist and politician, which is quite a combination. I'd bet his speeches were interesting.
