Cape Town, South Africa: Iziko South Africa Museum

This place had a birthday in 2025 - No. 200. The museum was created in 1825, and is the oldest in South Africa. 

It moved to its current location in the Company's Garden in 1897. The facility concentrates on the scientific history of the country, although some cultural items are also on display. The museum has more than a million and a half artifacts under its guidance. Some of the fossils go back 700 million years, while some clothes go all the way back to the ... 20th century. You can see stone tools used a mere 120,000 years ago. 

The South Africa Museum became the Iziko South Africa Museum in 2012. Iziko is a word from the Xhose culture meaning "hearth."
