
They don't make lobbies like this any more. Too bad.
Here's the lobby of the East Glacier Lodge, taken from the second floor. It was constructed between the World Wars, and it's right off a railroad stop.
You can see the wood supports that surround the main meeting area.There are 24 of them, and they were more than 800 years old or so when harvested. They are up to 40 feet tall and 40 inches in diameter, so they offer substantial support. They had to be shipped into the area on flatbed railroad cars, since they weren't locally grown.
There is a 9-hole golf course and a swimming pool on the grounds, but it's tough to leave the building. By the way, the dining room has a great view of the Rockies when the weather cooperates.
By the way, see the teepee at the end of the room on the second floor? That is not the budget level of accommodation.
