Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Utah: Ghost Town

If you are feeling adventurous while visiting the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, you can visit an actual ghost town. It's about five miles off the main road, and there is a cemetery and a few buildings left. It's located near some leftover sets where a small part of the Clint Eastwood movie, "The Outlaw Josie Wales," was filmed.

One warning -- this is one dusty road. Dirt got all over the inside of the trunk. We actually washed our rental car, something rarely done. And the road is bumpy, so it's not exactly a speedy drive. I probably wouldn't do it again, but I did always want to go to a ghost town.

The National Monument is rather remote and big. There's not a great deal for the casual tourist to see, although the rock formations are pretty and interesting in spots.
