Lusk, Wyoming: Wyoming's First Scenic Rest Area

Tourist attractions pop up in the most unexpected places. 

When visiting Lusk in Eastern Wyoming, you come across this sign explaining the historical significance of the roadside rest stop. Apparently Wyoming took Lady Bird Johnson's call to highway beauty seriously in the 1960's. 

This was its first step, as it build a stop complete with flush toilets. There were also picnic tables, a slide, merry-go-round, etc. We didn't have the nerve to take a picture of the actual rest room facility. But the sign has its own merits. 

Lusk, by the way, was written up nationally a while ago for being America's most on-line city. Looks like a nice town, based on a drive-through. And it's up to you to make the "any port in a storm" jokes.

It's probably not fair to judge a town on its rest area. Here's a drive through Lusk:
