Moab, Utah: Colorado River

The Colorado River was mighty enough to carve out fabulous scenery throughout the Southwest. You'd think I'd be clever enough to know beforehand that a drive along it would be spectacular at times.

I wasn't. I stumbled on a marvelous 12-mile drive heading east out of Moab. The road goes right along the river, with cliffs on both sides of the river. It's one of my favorite drives. Moab has a couple of long-distance runs on that route each year; I would imagine that race would attract people from all over the country.

We didn't follow the road west of Moab into Canyonlands National Park, but I'd bet there are some nice views that way too. So don't say you weren't warned.
