Annapolis, Maryland: Thurgood Marshall Memorial

Annapolis is a pretty city for a walk. Not only is it right along the oceanfront, but the parks are nice too.

Here's an unexpected treat on such a walk -- a tribute to Thurgood Marshall. He's the former distinguished lawyer and Supreme Court Justice. This one isn't even in the AAA books, but it's a fine place to watch the day go by and consider the contributions of this fine man. Marshall stands tall here, eight feet tall, and he has his briefcase at the ready by his side.

It is in front of Lawyers Mall. That's the place where in 1935 Marshall argued that University of Maryland Law School should be forced to integrate. He won that argument. More to the point, Marshall used many of those same arguments in the famous Brown v. Board of Education case almost 20 years later.
