Yosemite National Park, California: El Capitan

You shouldn't take places like this for granite.

Sorry.

El Capitan is one of the highlights of Yosemite. It's the largest granite mountain in the world, going 3,000 feet straight up. El Capitan is an impressive site from anywhere in the valley.

What's more, it's become a magnet for climbers, hikers, etc. The photographs come out rather well too.

That being the case, imagine what it's like to climb it. Many do, as it is an excellent challenge no matter where you climb it. The popular times are in late spring and early falls. Good luck to them.
