Boppard, Germany

The Romans had just done some conquering in the region we now call Germany, and decided that this particular region of the Rhine River was worth defending. Up went the fortress called Bodobrica. Eventually we got the name Boppard from that.

The Romans eventually left when such a big empire became a burden. At least the city survived, and survives. It's not a big area, and few obvious tourist attractions. The remaining Roman ruins are worth seeing, naturally.

But mostly, this is a nice little town. The waterfront is a particularly nice place for a stroll on a summer day.
