Constanta, Romania: The Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul

Here's a church that serves the area around Constanta from a location tucked in among the buildings near the waterfront. Construction started in the 1880s, and it was consecrated in 1895. It was promoted to cathedral status in 1925.

The facility took some hits from bombing in 1941 during World War II, and the citizens waited until 1946 to start repairs. It was granted cathedral status again in 1990. By the way, the Archbishop lives in a castle next door.

While the outside of this church is OK, the inside provides more proof that the Orthodox church sure does like to fix up its homes. It's an almost overwhelming site when entering the building, as this side view shows. The homemade video reveals the scope of the work:
