Svetozar Miletic was one of the most interesting personalities in the city's history. He was mayor twice, and he also was a lawyer and newspaper editor late in the 19th century. It sounds like they couldn't get much done without him.
He died in 1901, but a statue soon went up to honor him. When World War II started, the city figured it would be a good idea to hid Svetozar. He was returned to his usual spot in 1944. He's right in front of City Hall.
This guy must have been a heck of a campaigner during the major's election race.
