Admiral Horatio Nelson is considered one of the great ship commanders in history, having led his forces to several victories more than 200 years ago. He's best known for an 1805 victory over a French-Spanish naval force, even he lost his life in the process.
British-Nigerian artist Yinka Shonibare had a twist involved for this particular piece of art. He considered this work a commentary on Africa's complicated relationship colonial values, and a tribute to diversity on that boat as well as in England today. It was commissioned in 2009 and made its public debut in 2010.
Two years later, it found a home at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich. You can see it right outside the main entrance. The Museum opened in 1937.
