Port au Choix, Newfoundland: National Historic Site

I believe the story goes that someone wanted to build a movie theater in the coastal village of Port au Choix, and started digging up some odd objects along the way. That caught the attention of historians and archeologists, who knew this sport along the gulf could have been a prime location for ancient residents of the area. 

The theater never did get built. Graves were found in the area that date back to 4,400 years ago. There were no remains of buildings, as apparently the settlers lived elsewhere. But, it was a heck of a find under the circumstances. That prompted scientists to look around and find more valuable artifacts. The area eventually became a National Historic Site.   

Meanwhile, there's a lighthouse not far from the Welcome Center. It's not open, but we stopped for a look. In the process, we saw some wild caribou roaming around the area during our visit in that area. The area shown here is Phillip's Gardens, a major site of primitive life in the day.
