The building went up around 1898, and it's been guarding the shore ever since. It signals ships when necessary. The inside of the building has some historical artifacts and information. The place was operated until the 1970s, when it was taken over by Parks Canada. It's now part of Gros Morne National Park.
The Lighthouse was named a Recognized National Heritage Building in 1990. Visitors can see how the residents/staff lived and worked. They also can take a short walk down a hill toward a scenic overlook, which has some nice views of the waterfront ... like the one shown here.
