St. John's, Newfoundland: "Making Fish" Statue

Here's a statue that might take a little explaining, at least to those who live outside of Newfoundland. The title is only a little bit helpful: "Making Fish." 

It's something of a salute to the fishing industry, and how everyone chips in. In this case, the two women are carrying salt fish - a traditionally important job in the province. 

Jim Maunder takes the bow as the sculptor of this piece, which is located in front of the Convention Center in downtown St. John's.
