Melbourne, Australia: Flinders Street Station

There's something almost regal about an old train station in a big city. You can almost hear the history of mass transportation tooting in the background as you walk through large crowds of people on their way to, well, somewhere. 

This building has been around since 1909, although Melbourne had a smaller place for such purposes starting in 1854. The entire metropolitan rail network goes through here, as do several tram lines. In other words, if you are at the Station you can almost get anywhere in the region. There are 13 platforms, located in a building that stretches for more than two blocks. 

The photo shows one of the clocks that make this one of the most recognizable places in the city. There are a couple of phrases that have carried on for ages - "I'll meet you under the clocks" and "I'll meet you on the steps.
