Queenstown, New Zealand

Here's a look at the prettiest town around that you've never heard about ... until now. (Be sure to click on the photo to the right to blow it up.)

It's located right on the end of Lake Watatipu, which is fed by the melting snows of the mountains above them. The hills across the way are the Remarkables. They are steep enough to frame the area properly, rising as high as 6,500 feet in spots. You can get a good look at the park area; it's the peninsula in the middle of the photo. Downtown isn't too big, but it's active.

Queentown has a great climate. The highs in the summer don't get above the low 90s, and the highs in the winter are usually no lower than the 50s. The lows in winter can be above freezing, but it seems quite tolerable for a mountainous area.

This is a great spot for active sports - everything from skiing to biking to bungee jumping is practiced in the region, and then some. So there are people coming and going from here all year long.

More importantly, it always looks great. That fact has pushed up real estate to great heights. The good news is that you don't have to move here to enjoy it. A visit will provide plenty of memories.
