Oh, sorry - I've been watching too many horror movies lately.
But sometimes experiments go correctly. This is one such time.
Redwoods Forest (also called Whakarewarewa Forest) is located just outside Rotorua. Back in 1901, some redwoods from California were planted in New Zealand to see how they'd do. After all, the climates seemed rather close.
It worked. The first timber was cut around 1915, and a walking track for visitors was built around 1938. The area became a designated Forest Park in 1970. That caused a big fight between the various factions in New Zealand. It took until 2009 to figure out what the land's status was.
After all that, it's still a nice place for a walk on a spring day. The trees are quite high already, and they probably will grow much higher in the years to come. A raised walkway gives visitors a raised viewpoint of the forest; sadly we didn't have time to try it.
Photos never do such places justice. But this one will have to do ... unless you watch this video.
