Rotorua, New Zealand: St. Faith's Anglican Church

There always has been some tension between the Māori population, that has been around New Zealand for years and years, and the "outsiders" who arrived less than 300 years ago. While the two sides have worked out some of the issues between them, there are still cultural differences that have been hard to bridge.

This church is one of the few places where people from both sides choose to be together. Yes, there is some mixing elsewhere in typical meeting areas like work. Here, though, the Christian and Māori culture are the exceptions to the rule.

The church itself is Tudor style, indicating the church's Anglican roots. But the interior has a definite Māori feeling to it, thanks to some carvings and panels. The biggest eyecatcher in the place may be the glass-stained window depicting Jesus Christ in a Māori cloak.

People from the Māori group say they have learned much from the immigrants to the region over the years. We'll see if the example teaches others something.
