"Dromeas," also called "The Runner," is a most unusual piece of art. There are thousands of pieces of glass that went into the finished product. They were arranged to form the illusion that someone was running. It was finished in 1994, but it was moved soon after that. People were afraid that vibration from the Metro underground might cause it to flip over, break, and do some damage to people who happened to be walking by.
Running and Greece will always be linked, thanks to the Marathon, and this shows the connection in a unique way. For what it's worth, we had a small reproduction of "Dromeas" in our hotel lobby in Athens. It looked pretty cool there too.
I couldn't stop the bus for a closer look, but you can.
