Marulic was a well-known figure as a poet during the Renaissance. He's been called "the father of Croatian literature." The statue went up in 1925 - about 400 years after this death. Marulic's work supposedly boosted Christian moral values.
The statue is located near the Fruit Square, the spot for open-air markets in the area. You never know if this might be a question on "Jeopardy" someday, so now you'll be ready for it.
