Nuremberg, Germany: Ship of Fools Sculpture

"Do you think they sold too many tickets for this boat?"

Yes, it is a little crowded in the "Ship of Fools." This is based on a poem written in 1494 by Sebastian Brant. It became one of the most popular books of the 16th century, although I'd like to see the sales numbers for that time period. The author's only point was to display man's abilities to make mistakes.

Juergen Weber turned it into a statue around 1984. There are seven different fools on the boat; looks like it was foolish to sell so many tickets.

Meanwhile, there has never been water attached to the sculpture. Therefore, it's a boat on dry land. That's also foolish.

Be sure to take a good look at it when you see it, and not just take a quick photo while walking by. (Guilty)
