Vesteralen/Lofoton Islands, Norway

For those coming from the north by boat, Vesteralen and the Lofoton Islands are where the territory becomes extremely interesting and beautiful. There are a ton of islands to be explored, one prettier than the next, along with mountains, bays and beaches. 

The fjords are the highlight of course, and there are a bunch of them around. After visiting a farm, our bus drove along the water for several miles, and then we hopped on a ferry from Refsnes to Fiesnes, and then went along another lake and fjord to meet up with our boat in Sortland.

By the way, all of the excursions are timed to return to ship at the same time. So when we crossed the Sortlandsundet together on a bridge, many passengers on the boat had gathered at the front to wave flags and honk as us. It was a nice surprise. 

The photos don't really capture the scope of the area, but this one will have to do. The video of Vesteralen might do more justice:
