Why that fellow can fly! It must be Superman!
Almost. It's a statue of Michael Jordan, basketball superstar. Jordan's statue went up in front of the United Center in 1994. Visitors to Chicago often head over to get a picture at all hours of the day, plus before and after games.
No word on who the guy playing defense is.
I had the chance to see this when the statue was located outside. Now it's been moved inside of the atrium in the sports arena. Now it is protected from the elements, and it gives people year-round access to it. Not a bad idea. You don't have to pay to see it; the statue is located in a common area.
Jordan, of course, achieved something beyond super-stardom during his time with the Chicago Bulls. He led the team to six championships. On the base is this simple quote: "The best there ever was. The best there ever will be."
If you'd like a replica of it, the price was $10,000 each originally.
