Strasbourg, France: Monument aux morts de Strasbourg

It only took one sculpture to reveal a little of the pain that has took place in this wonderful city a little more than 100 years ago.

The region has been a ping-pong ball between France and Germany over the years. The last time it changed hands for a good length of time was at the end of World War I. The cultures have become intertwined over the years.

On the other hands, it can have drawbacks. This sculpture illustrates one. Modeled after the Pieta, a mother holds the bodies of her two dead sons - one French, one German. It was unveiled in 1936 ... shortly before more bloodshed in the region took place.

Yes, definitely stop and take a look at this one.
