Bucharest, Romania: The CEC Palace

You might find two names for this building, located in the center of Bucharest. Sure, the CEC Palace sounds business-like and regal at the same time. But give me the title of "The Palace of Deposits and Consignments" any time.

The site hosted a church until 1875, when the facility essentially fell apart and had to be demolished. And so the bank built its own headquarters, with its own money, on that spot. Construction was finished in 1900. The building has hosted some big celebrations over the years. Mostly, though, it's a state-owned bank that is a centerpiece of the district.

Sometimes Bucharest uses it for a light show!
