Go ahead. Call it "The Impaled Potato." The locals do. They also call it "Potato on a Stick."
The monument is located in downtown Bucharest, and it's designed to honor the victims of the 1989 revolution. The object is supposed to symbolize the sacrifices made by the few so the rest of the country could live in freedom. You can buy that concept for a monument if you want; the price tag for the object was $2 million.
The monument has been present since 2004. It's been the subject of a couple of acts of small vandalism. The government hasn't gotten around to cleaning up the mess, which is noteworthy on some levels.
