The facility has been around since 1911, and formerly hosted the Comedy Theater. The Odeon won the Romanian Theater of the Year Award in 1993; I suppose that's pretty good.
It's at least interesting that there is a statue of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in front of the plaza. Americans don't know much about him, but he was one of the founding fathers of the Republic of Turkey. Ataturk was the president of Turkey from 1923 to 1938.
It's interesting that he'd be honored in Romania, and that probably shows his influence in the region. Here's a newsreel story on Ataturk's death:
