Split, Croatia: Cathedral of Saint Domnius

The Cathedral of Saint Domnius has been around since the year 305. You'd assume it would have some stories to tell, and it does.

It was first build to be the Mausoleum for Diocletian, the Roman Emperor. That idea lasted a few hundred years, when the place was turned into a cathedral. Here's the fun part: It's the oldest Catholic cathedral in the world among those still using its original structure. A bell tower eventually was attached to the building, meaning that it took a few hundred years to get it done. But people can still take to the 183 steps to the top for a look around the town. The tower is about 60 meters tall.

The last remodeling job took place around the year 1900. It's been a big part of Diocletian's Palace for centuries. We didn't make it inside, but you can.
