Zion National Park, Utah
Zion National Park has to be one of the great places in the world. The Virgin River has carved out a canyon over the centuries, so visitors can walk and be surrounded by mountains. The rocks seem almost close enough to touch both sides at once in spots, giving the place a sense of intimacy.
Try to get a room at the lodge inside the park if you can. It will improve the trip experience greatly. Just plan ahead.
The National Park Service wisely got rid of private automobiles a while ago. Therefore, if you get up early enough, before the shuttle buses start running in earnest, you can walk or run on the road with only a wild turkey for company. There is plenty of opportunity for hiking and sight-seeing.
Take my word for it - go once in your life at the least.
