Salt Lake City, Utah: Temple Square
Even those who aren't members of the Church of Latter-Day Saints will want to take a look around Temple Square in Salt Lake City. Shown above is the Mormon Temple, a magnificent building that's closed to the general public. The grounds have plenty of memorials and interesting buildings; the landscaping is particularly impressive in the summer.
Visitors can take tours of the area. One bit of warning: While the grounds are indeed covered in the tour, there is something of an effort to teach people about the religion first as opposed to being a "tourist attraction." It's quite a sales job, actually, and may not be for every taste.
