It's a little tough to get the beauty of this place in a Web page this size, but this picture gives you a little idea. The amphitheater was carved out of the sandstone without a great deal of work.
The acoustics here are said to be perfect. Therefore, a concert here must be a wonderful experience. Practically everyone has played here at one time or another; perhaps you remember U2's live CD from here. People are sitting at more than 6,000 feet of altitude for shows here in an area that seats 9,525. If the show isn't too good, well, there is a view of the Denver skyline that might keep your interest.
You can walk around the facility when there's no concert. In fact, when we were there a few amateurs took the stage and played some music just to see what it was like.
The area used to be sacred ground to the Native population of the area. However, the Civilian Conservation Corps turned it into a theater in 1941.
This complex is in Red Rocks Park, which is quite impressive in its own right. Worth the drive from Denver to Morrison, which is only about 10 miles away.
